Infected Tissue Lawsuit

Biomedical Tissue Services, a company based in the United States, provided unscreened and potentially tainted tissue to the Hotel Dieu Hospital. Health Canada warned that the tissue was not adequately screened for such diseases as HIV, Hepatitis B and C, syphilis and human T-cell lymphotropic virus (HTLV I and II).

The company is subject to a criminal investigation for selling body parts illegally harvested from funeral homes. These body parts pose a risk of serious disease to those who receive the parts.

.

Law experts recommend that anyone receiving a notice from the FDA concerning the tissue involved in a recent transplant seek legal advice.
